My twenty five years of working in the Houston Education and Mental health field, has sparked a great passion for combining both areas. I have experience as a teacher in public, private, special, and charter schools for Preschool through High school age students in the classroom, and as a specialty teacher of Art, Drama, Yoga, Dance, and Movement enrichment. My teaching experience also includes teaching in specialized schools, one with students with social and emotional and behavioral difficulties, and another with students with various learning differences. For nearly a decade, I was the owner, director, and instructor of a successful educational enrichment business that provided camps, classes, workshops and professional development in over 100 Houston area schools and organizations. I have also provided professional development and parent education in schools, organizations and conferences the last decade in a variety of education, child development and mental health areas.
Over the past two decades, I have presented professional development and parent education at multiple conferences, schools and organizations in the areas of child development, mental health, the Arts, behavior, classroom management, Yoga and Movement, executive function, and anxiety. I have also helped create and implement unique programming in enrichment, curriculum, after school and the Arts through various projects.
Coach
Combining my passions for both Education and Mental health, I enjoyed the opportunity to serve an International private school as an Elementary counselor; and as a Preschool through High School Learning Specialist at another Houston independent private school. Through these experiences I gained additional knowledge and interest in helping support students with their learning needs. Additionally, I created an Executive Function curriculum for clinicians to be utilized for teens and young adults in outpatient, IOP and residential treatment. I have spent the past few years as an ADHD coach and executive function coach for children, teens, parents, and adults with a focus on strength based support. During my Masters practicum, I specialized in ADHD, learning all aspects of support from a local ADHD expert
I have a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Education and Psychology, and a Masters degree in Psychology with a focus on Professional Counseling. I have extensive continuing education in play and expressive therapies, developmentally appropriate practices, brain based learning, Movement, ADHD and executive function.
Over the past two decades, I have presented professional development and parent education at multiple conferences, schools and organizations in the areas of child development, mental health, the Arts, behavior, classroom management, Yoga and Movement
I enjoy problem solving and providing support to families that are navigating challenges.
Consultant
I am a self proclaimed "school nerd" and love learning about all things education, and school related. I love getting to know the unique "personality" of schools to help support families in finding their best fit school and supporting educators with their unique needs. Learning, and educating others are two of my favorite things, and I absolutely love to combine the two.
I have spent my entire career (and life) in schools. I have a passion for helping families, supporting teachers, and educating people.
My fascination with schools began even before I was out of school myself. An unexpected high school switch sparked an interest and awareness in the differences in each school. Before going off to college I spent hours studying a college reference book and learning about each school's unique offerings. Upon graduation, I delved into the same type of research and learned about Houston area schools in my teaching job search. My experience in varied educational roles has lent me the opportunity to gain unique experience to visit beyond tours, and experience schools as they function on a daily basis to capture a true picture of the full environment.
In Fall 2018, I created the "Parents guide to Houston area preschools" that included information submitted from nearly 100 Houston area schools as well as information on how to pick a preschool. I have also created and facilitate the facebook group
“ Houston Preschool and Elementary information” that allows families and educational professionals to share about the Houston area community.
